Meet Dinesh – A First-Generation Engineer Defying the Odds

Dinesh Madhavan M is a determined third-year Artificial Intelligence and Data Science student from Theni, Tamil Nadu. Having scored 80.7% in his Higher Secondary examinations in 2023, Dinesh earned his place at KIT Coimbatore — one of the region’s reputed engineering institutions — and has since maintained a strong CGPA of 7.8, a testament to his dedication despite the hardships surrounding him.

Dinesh’s family story is one of quiet struggle. His father, Madhavan, is a person with a disability and unable to work. The entire family depends on his mother, Kala M, who works as a daily wage labourer earning just ₹8,000 per month. His sister Kavya M , currently pursuing her M.Sc., earns ₹6,000 per month — together, the household manages on just ₹14,000 a month to cover all living and educational expenses. The family neither owns a house nor land.

For his 3rd year fees of ₹90,000, Dinesh has managed to piece together support through a BC scholarship (₹8,000), a contribution from his parents (₹20,000), and an education loan that fully covered his 2nd year fees — but the loan funds have not yet been disbursed for his 3rd year. With ₹62,000 still outstanding and fees due immediately, we agreed to sponsor ₹40,000 Dinesh is at risk of disruption to his studies at a critical stage of his degree.

What stands out about Dinesh is his resolve. He has stated clearly that he intends to repay any financial support received — with interest — once he secures employment. His academic performance, his chosen field of AI and Data Science, and his unwavering commitment to lifting his family out of hardship paint the picture of a young man who simply needs a bridge to cross.

Meet Shameer, a dedicated second-year Pharmacy student from Karambakudi. His journey is a powerful story of resilience and determination. Despite facing severe financial and resource constraints, Shameer successfully completed his +2 examinations in 2022 with a score of 54%.

Shameer’s family depends solely on his father, a daily wage laborer earning approximately ₹9,000 per month, to support the household. He has two siblings—one currently pursuing 12th grade and a younger brother studying in 7th grade. The family owns no land and is unable to secure an educational loan, making the burden of college tuition extremely challenging.

Shameer is driven by a strong ambition to build a stable and meaningful career and use his education to uplift his family from the cycle of poverty. His commitment to learning and self-improvement reflects his determination to create a better future.

✨ Christmas Celebration at Sevalayam, Coimbatore – Silver Jubilee ✨

We had the privilege of celebrating Christmas at Sevalayam, Coimbatore as part of their Silver Jubilee celebrations. With the generous contributions collected from our volunteers and well-wishers, we were able to support this special event and bring cheer to many lives.

A heartfelt thanks to Rajeev, who took full responsibility for arranging the dresses for both the elderly residents and young children. From identifying the requirements, selecting suitable clothes, managing purchases, to ensuring timely delivery, his dedication and coordination made the entire process smooth and impactful.

The dress distribution was successfully carried out on 20th December, and the happiness on the faces of the elders and children truly reflected the spirit of Christmas. The Sevalayam management expressed their deep appreciation for the support, especially since everything was organised at short notice.

Thenmozhi S., a first-year Information Technology student from Madurai. Her story is one of profound perseverance, having secured 63.9% in her +2 exams in 2025 despite significant financial and resource challenges.

Thenmozhi’s family relies solely on her mother, who works as a coolie (manual laborer) and earns just ₹6,000 per month to support four children and the household. Thenmozhi is one of four siblings (with others pursuing BA, B.Ed, and M.Sc, and a younger brother in 7th grade).

The family is landless and cannot secure an educational loan, making her college fees a heavy burden. Thenmozhi’s ambition is clear and powerful to build a sustainable career in technology and use her education to uplift her family from the cycle of poverty.

Her journey is a testament to the transformative power of education. She is at a critical juncture, needing support to continue her studies without the looming fear of dropping out.
