Meet Dinesh – A First-Generation Engineer Defying the Odds
Dinesh Madhavan M is a determined third-year Artificial Intelligence and Data Science student from Theni, Tamil Nadu. Having scored 80.7% in his Higher Secondary examinations in 2023, Dinesh earned his place at KIT Coimbatore — one of the region’s reputed engineering institutions — and has since maintained a strong CGPA of 7.8, a testament to his dedication despite the hardships surrounding him.
Dinesh’s family story is one of quiet struggle. His father, Madhavan, is a person with a disability and unable to work. The entire family depends on his mother, Kala M, who works as a daily wage labourer earning just ₹8,000 per month. His sister Kavya M , currently pursuing her M.Sc., earns ₹6,000 per month — together, the household manages on just ₹14,000 a month to cover all living and educational expenses. The family neither owns a house nor land.
For his 3rd year fees of ₹90,000, Dinesh has managed to piece together support through a BC scholarship (₹8,000), a contribution from his parents (₹20,000), and an education loan that fully covered his 2nd year fees — but the loan funds have not yet been disbursed for his 3rd year. With ₹62,000 still outstanding and fees due immediately, we agreed to sponsor ₹40,000 Dinesh is at risk of disruption to his studies at a critical stage of his degree.
